Greenhouse growing

When it comes to greenhouse growing, know the basics: location, temperature and air circulation. The best locations for greenhouses are in direct sunlight and the areas that receive the most sunlight during the day. South and southeast areas are ideal for greenhouse locations. The northern most side of a building or home usually receives an inefficient supply of light for growing needs.

Next, make sure the greenhouse is on level ground. Greenhouse growing requires a clean and safe area for plants and flowers to grow. If the ground is not level, shelving and systems can topple. A level and stable foundation also saves the structure from receding or sinking during heavy rains or wind. Finally, remember that individuals walking through the greenhouse will need a level walkway in order to avoid falling or brushing up against growth.

Greenhouse growing also needs a stable temperature. Colder regions will most likely need an outside heater. Hotter regions will probably need some type of ventilation to allow for air circulation. Plants need quality air that won’t freeze or overheat them.

Greenhouse growing will yield high quality plants and flowers when maintained properly. Finding the best shape, size and type of greenhouse will rely solely on the grower’s interest and in the environment itself. Testing areas are the best way to begin, but research and asking fellow gardeners for tips can make or break a greenhouse environment.
